football field lighting design: 360° led football field lighting layout

In the past, metal halide lights were the primary lighting fixtures used in football field lighting design. However, as LED lighting technology has advanced and become more widely adopted across various sectors, high-power LED lights have increasingly been utilized in football field lighting design. Compared to traditional metal halide lights, LED lights offer advantages such as energy efficiency, high performance, low maintenance costs, and the ability for intelligent control. They have proven effective for event lighting, emergency lighting, and audience seating illumination.

The football field project includes three professional football fields: one main field and two auxiliary fields. The main football field lighting complies with FIFA's V-level lighting standards, requiring an average vertical illumination of at least 2400 lx for the main camera, 1800 lx for the auxiliary cameras (facing four directions), and a minimum average horizontal illumination of 3500 lx, suitable for 4K/8K ultra-high-definition broadcasts. The two auxiliary fields (training grounds) maintain an average illumination level of no less than 800 lx, sufficient for nighttime games.

The project encompasses field lighting, audience seating illumination, emergency lighting, auxiliary football field lighting, and event supplementary lighting. Following lighting design criteria and relevant standards, the main stadium is equipped with 396 high-power LED lights, each rated at 1500W with a color temperature of 5700K and a flicker ratio of less than 1%. The audience seating area features 64 high-power LED lights of 1200W, also at 5700K, while event supplementary lighting consists of 46 TLC-RGBW lights, integrated with a DMX512 intelligent dimming system to fulfill the main stadium's illumination needs.

Two football field lighting layout design schemes have been proposed for the field. Scheme one follows industry standards for light placement, ensuring no fixtures are layout in prohibited areas. Scheme two employs a 360° circular layout, ensuring that the lights do not project into restricted zones as outlined by FIFA guidelines, but rather focus on the midfield area between the two restricted lines. This requires precise control of the LED lights' projection angles.

According to UEFA regulations (2019/2016) and AFC standards (2018), lights can be layout in a 360° configuration, provided that installation position requirements are met. Scheme two adheres to UEFA standards for the 360° light layout.

Both designs feature the placement of circumferential horseway lights and lights at the four corners. The first design utilizes a traditional intermittent layout to avoid blue areas, while the second design employs a 360° layout that distributes lights evenly across the entire horseway, offering advantages in architectural aesthetics, load distribution, and lighting effects. Calculations show that both designs comply with FIFA standards.

When comparing the main lighting values of the two lighting methods, the circular 360° layout generally provides superior illumination. Specifically, the average horizontal illumination is 3% higher, the minimum horizontal illumination is 11.7% higher, horizontal illumination uniformity is improved by 11%, and the average vertical illumination for the main camera is 7.4% higher, with the maximum vertical illumination being 13.5% higher.

To enhance the atmosphere before and during the game, the football field has incorporated 46 sets of LED-RGBW lights for additional lighting. The roof structure has been analyzed based on the project's requirements, with the design focusing on the internal appearance of the roof. The color can be adjusted as needed, and the control method is versatile, with various preset modes for interpretation.
